“Play therapy is the dynamic process between child and play therapist in which the child explores, at his or her own pace and with his or her own agenda, those issues past and current, conscious and unconscious, that are affecting the child’s life in the present.

The child’s inner resources are enabled by the therapeutic alliance to bring about growth and change.  Play therapy is child-centred, play being the primary medium and speech the secondary medium”

(As defined by The Association of Play Therapist (UK)

Children naturally express themselves, experiment, learn and develop communication skills through play.  By providing a safe space through play therapy in which to play, children start to relate to toys and act out their emotions, anxieties and concerns – thus it allows for an expressive release of feelings, frustrations or whatever they want to communicate.  Our experienced therapists can understand a child’s world better by observing them in play and can relate to them on a different level (often better than through talking alone).  Play for a child is serious business and in play therapy they themselves are taken seriously.

“Child-centred play therapy is suitable for most multi-troubled children.  Each child is different and cunningly uses the session to work on current difficulties and former tribulations.” (Janet West)

Friendship Club

Does your child struggle to make or keep friends?

We believe that children learn friendship and social skills best whilst playing.  Our unique approach include setting up play opportunities between children that are facilitated by Carol Jones, play therapist.  This innovative approach has benefitted the children to develop friendship skills and enables them to transfer the skills successfully into the playground.

Carol utilises non-directive play approaches to help your child discover the mutual enjoyment of playing.  During non-directive play sessions Carol builds on your child's current interests and play skills by joining in, celebrating, reflecting and extending their play through turn-taking and mutual enjoyment of your child's chosen activities at their own level and pace.
